It's completely normal to feel concerned that your breastmilk supply is not exactly what you imagined it would be. Breastfeeding and lactation supplements can be a great way to boost your supply, and your confidence.
Lactation supplements (also known as Galactagogues) may help increase your breast milk supply or improve your milk flow.
We've curated a range of breastfeeding and lactation supplements from three of our favourite brands: Lila Jasmine Nutrition, Franjo's Kitchen, and Mammas Milk Bar. Choose from our lactation bars, biscuits and blends to help give your supply a boost.
Remember, breastfeeding is a supply-and-demand activity. The more you breastfeed, the more milk your body makes. If you are concerned about your milk supply or your baby, please talk to your midwife, a lactation consultant, or your GP.
Lila Jasmine Nutrition Lactation Bars
Lila Jasmine Nutrition's lactation bars are created by midwife, nurse and mama Renata Lardelli (the clever woman behind Little Mash Boutique and the Fourth Trimester Workshops). Lila Jasmine breastmilk support bars are made in a boutique factory right here in New Zealand. These delicious, nutritious lactation bars taste like they’ve come straight from grandma’s kitchen, giving you that nostalgic memory of home baking, while boosting your milk supply. Packed with powerhouse ingredients specifically chosen for their naturally occurring galactagogues, and available in two delicious flavours - Apple Crumble and Apricot and Chocolate, you'll love having these in your pantry as a wholesome breastfeeding supplement.
From small beginnings – trialling lactation biscuit recipes in Jo’s home kitchen and testing them on local mums – Franjo’s Kitchen is now an international brand with a factory in Tullamarine. What started with two flavours of breastfeeding biscuits has expanded to a delicious and functional range of breastfeeding supplements that support every stage of life – from pregnancy and breastfeeding through to toddlerhood and beyond.
Mamma's Milk Bar
When new mum Wendy struggled with boosting her breastmilk supply in a healthy way, she decided to create her own range of natural, clean lactation support products. Endorsed by midwives and lactation consultants, the Mamma's Milk Bar range includes lactation blends and protein powders to support you during breastfeeding and pregnancy.
Galactagogues are foods and herbs that may help to increase breastmilk supply, usually by increasing prolactin levels. If you are worried about your milk supply and if your baby is getting enough breastmilk, please talk to your midwife, GP or a lactation consultant.
Many Galactagogues have been used by women for centuries as a supplement to boost breastmilk supply, however they haven't been formally studied.
Consume herbal galactogogues as a tea or as a part of a meal. Whole food is better than supplement form, as the nutrients are more readily absorbed.
