Remember, breastfeeding is a supply-and-demand activity. The more you breastfeed, the more milk your body makes. If you are concerned about your milk supply or your baby, please talk to your midwife, a lactation consultant, or your GP.

When new mum Wendy struggled with boosting her breastmilk supply in a healthy way, she decided to create her own range of natural, clean lactation support products. Endorsed by midwives and lactation consultants, the Mamma's Milk Bar range includes lactation blends and protein powders to support you during breastfeeding and pregnancy. 

Galactagogues are foods and herbs that may help to increase breastmilk supply, usually by increasing prolactin levels. If you are worried about your milk supply and if your baby is getting enough breastmilk, please talk to your midwife, GP or a lactation consultant. 

Many Galactagogues have been used by women for centuries as a supplement to boost breastmilk supply, however they haven't been formally studied.

Consume herbal galactogogues as a tea or as a part of a meal. Whole food is better than supplement form, as the nutrients are more readily absorbed.

Other Ways to Boost Your Milk Supply 

Breastfeeding is a supply and demand activity, and galactagogues will be more effective when used alongside other methods. 

  • Stay hydrated - aim to drink around 16 cups of water per day 
  • Gently squeeze your breast as your baby is nursing
  • Feed on demand, and try feed more frequently to encourage a stronger supply
  • Feed in a comfortable position and ensure baby's latch is comfortable and pain-free 
  • Use skin to skin contact as much as possible
  • Wear comfortable breastfeeding-friendly bras
